Freedom

One doesn't question many times about the meaning of freedom. However, this is an issue that affect us in our every day living. It has been a cause to declare wars and revolutions. It is a war cry shouted in every language, in every country in the world. Millions had die for this, and their blood has been the sacrifice they paid to call us a free society.

Why is it so important anyway? Because after the value of life, the value of freedom is the most important thing we have: is our capacity to choose the religion we want, the soccer team we like, or even the smallest things like picking up the soda you prefer. But, is a good hypothetic exercise to see our lives without this gift. Oppression is the name of the master, and fear is the name of the chains. This concepts are brother in the cruel attempt of taking away the very nature that defines as humas: our capacity to think, to doubt, to imagine, to create. Our need to see whats beyond of the horizont, our wish to reach to higher grounds. Our basic instincts that bound us, that let us share the same feelings, or to disagree in our point of view.

Ignorance is the best weapon of the oppression. Keeping a man under the darkness is the best way to make him a slave. Through history, many system and institutions had insisted in giving mankind poor education, and to errase any attempt to go any further in knowledge. But it is our natural instinct as well to try to break this chains. As Thomas Paine said

The sun has never shined on a cause of greater worth. This is not the affair of a city, a country, a province, or a kingdom, but of a continent. This is not te concern of a day, or a year, or an age: posterity are virtually involved in the contest, and will be more or less affected, even to the end of times, by the proceedings of now.

It is thanks to our freedom that I am writing this lines an you are reading them. It's the greatest gift that we could leave to the future generations.
